A flurry of Mega Man 10 promotional videos

9 03 2010

by Steve

Megaman 10 is either almost out, out now or been out a while. I cant be bothered to look. Whatever the case may be it seems like this time it will be actually beatable, which is a plus since I gave up pretty quickly last round. It also continues with the “Its a long lost 8-bit game” concept that caused such a fuss with part 9.  Sticking with the nostalgia theme, Capcom has not only made another godawful cover for the game (Isn’t this a piece of Megaman history we should be ashamed of in America and want to forget?) as seen here:

Good God

I mean its kinda cool they took the joke this far. BUT they even went further and produced this amazing long lost commercial!

and damn, they went for the gusto with this one. Soooo many little touches, from the titles to the room to even the kid! Who knew there was such nostalgia for all the shitty attempts they used to market to us as kids. Still it had me cracking up.

Also rapper Random, AKA Mega Ran, a longtime Megaman loving rap artist released a song about Megaman 10 presumably with Capcoms blessing

Eh, its pretty catchy. Probably the best megaman related rap out there. Though its worth noting that the rapper Del tha Funky Homosapien, when refering to his future self Deltron for the album “Deltron 3030″ had this to say about megaman:

” I got the idea from “Megaman X” [the video game] because the regular “Megaman” was kind of round, cartoony. They souped him up to “Megaman X” and made him futuristic. I always thought that was a dope idea.”

which I thing deserves our continued respect.

Megaman 10 will be released….. I guess now it looks like for an unknown ammout of Wii Points, Xbox Gamer Points or Playstation Store “US currency”

WiiWare Piles On The Good But With Little Place To Go

20 10 2008

If anyone has been paying attention WiiWare has been seeing the kind of surge XBLA did early in the summer. Megaman 9, World Of Goo, Tetris Party and the Art Style games are all must plays and and the VC has some long awaited (Super Mario RPG) and some crazy (Cho Aniki?!) releases.

Of course the storage issue is still a problem. Now, Nintendo has unveiled a solution but in my opinion it’s a case of too little, too late.

A software update is coming in the Spring (too late) that will allow you to stream the games off your SD card but it will lack SD High Capacity support (too little).

I’ve viewed the sentiment that “Nintendo only makes games for teenage girls and Soccer Moms now” as a canard of the stereotypical game nerd/game critic with blog space to fill. Now, for me, these sentiments are starting to ring true.

This hurts for me to admit but if Nintendo is truly alienating the “Core Gamer” and the Big N should find itself behind the curve again (N64) who will be there to support them? Certainly not these gamers.

Megaman 9 is SO dated.

20 09 2008

So the release dates have been announced leaving quite a conundrum for multi-console owners.

The game debuts on WiiWare this Monday the 22nd, PSN Thursday the 25th, and XBLA way in to the future timescape of October 1st.

So which one does a guy [used in a gender neutral sense] get?

WiiWare pros: It just seems right to have Megaman 9 on a Nintendo system. It comes out first so no waiting. Contols should be pretty good with the WiiMote.

PSN pros: Not too much longer of a wait than Wii. I have plenty of storage space. Controls should be great with the PS controller. PSP play also (as far as I know) available. Trophies?

XBLA pros: Achievements! and uh… plenty of storage space?

WiiWare cons: $#!%! I have no where to put this! Nintendo why do you make it so hard to give you my money?

PSN cons: Having to wait 3 days. I don’t download anything for PSN. Trophies?

XBLA cons: The thought of playing this game with that atrocious mushy d-pad is unbearable. October 1st! Have you watched the news? Our entire financial system may be in ruins by then. We may all be burning our consoles to heat our homes and cook our food. The future is too uncertain to wait 11 days from now!

So I guess the winner is PSN but as previously stated I don’t download anything for it. What’s everyone else doing? I must rely on herd mentality to make this decision. Please be my shepard!

Dr. Mario Online Mother Fuckers!

26 05 2008

When I first moved in to the Malden, four-man Dr. Mario Battle Royales were on the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I plan to D/L as soon as I clear some more space. Let’s bring back a Malden tradition.

*UPDATE*

First off, the download is only 93 blocks which was a relief for me. There’s no 4 player, online or off. Kind of a bummer. Online is smooth though and the matches link up pretty quick. Beware many of the Japanese players, they’ve had the game for awhile now and they will make your ranking and your tears fall in a hurry.

FFCC: MLAAK is just like high school…

15 05 2008

…because I’m not getting any action.

I downloaded this game on Tuesday and I was not prepared for it. I heard some early impressions when it came out in Japan about it being a management/building sim but I largely ignored those impressions. How foolish I was.

Lost Winds = WiiWare goodness

13 05 2008

$10 download from the WiiWare selection.  Only 43 mb, and a really easy going game.  It works like Okami, but the wind affects platforming more directly (i.e. you use it to jump, since the little kid can only walk and hold things).

I’m going to say that I think its probably one of the best orginal downloadable games I’ve played.  If you have the extra dough, give it a spin.
